A wild elephant has had to be rescued after accidentally falling into an open well in the south Indian state of Kerala, India. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the 7-year old elephant took a catastrophically wrong turn in search of food, and strayed into a private farm. Here, it slipped and fell into a 25-feet deep open well. Notified by the villagers, the forest department officials rushed to the scene with a JCB digger, and at 6am commenced a rescue operation that would last four hours. This incident comes at a time of rising man-animal conflict in the area, and increasingly blurred boundaries between animal and human habitats. Filmed on 1st June 2020
